“Garden of Eden” began with a song that Caitlin McGrath and her co-writer and producer, Reggie Pierre, had carried for years, waiting for the right moment, the right sound and the right person to help bring it fully to life.
That person appeared unexpectedly in Australia.
Caitlin and Reggie met Mauritian-Australian artist Jason Heerah through what felt like a divinely aligned series of connections. What started as a musical meeting quickly revealed something deeper: Reggie is Haitian, Jason is Mauritian, and suddenly two Creole cultures from opposite sides of the world had found each other through music.
With Jason, the song finally found its sound.
What happened next became much bigger than the original plan. The collaboration pulled the project across continents — from Australia to Miami and ultimately to Mauritius — where the artists traveled to capture the visual world of “Garden of Eden.”
Across turquoise lagoons, waterfalls, forests, beaches and the dramatic landscape of Le Morne, Mauritius became more than a filming location. It became the launching pad for the song itself — with premieres on Radio One and RM1, coverage in 5-Plus Dimanche, a feature/interview with TuneCore Africa, and the song’s first live performance taking place on the island.
For Caitlin and Reggie, arriving in Mauritius also felt unexpectedly familiar. The Creole language, music, food, warmth and island culture created an immediate connection to Haiti and the wider Caribbean.
What began as one song became a journey across the world — connecting people, cultures and places that seemed far apart, but somehow felt destined to meet.
